Rome, Open City follows resistance to the Nazi occupation, but while its subject and much of its content is heavy and serious, it finds quite a bit of levity in moments; a soccer game, a lover’s tease, and the below sequences. The film is in Italian and German, but neither of these ‘bits’ need words to convey exactly what’s happening, or why it’s both tense and hilarious.
