The way this scene uses angles and cuts — particularly the way it edits between a few key frames — emotionally underscores how John Book (Harrison Ford) feels about hearing some horrifying news.
I was watching Morning Glory last night (a comfort film for me) with great cast and breezy story. Harrison Ford and Rachel McAdams - so good! I was of course looking at Ford's bio at the same time - he got an Oscar nomination for Witness but lost and still has no Academy award which seems a travesty
He absolutely deserved that nomination - I can't speak to the win because I haven't seen any (!) of the other performances, but he was just. so. good.
And no wins is WILD.
Obviously he's been in a lot of popular / blockbuster movies which the Academy don't only [generally] not care about, but he's been in so many they may hold that against him . . . even though for example Raiders of the Lost Ark got nine nominations and won five. They just don't see acting in movies 'like that' as a craft or skill on the same level as cinematography, score, etc. (tbh they probably see his performance in Witness as barely more 'respectable' than something like Indy or Han Solo.)

Wrong, on all counts!
