Week 25.03 posts include shots from Cry of the Hunted (1953); Doctor Who (2005-2022) times two; and Arcane (2021-2024).
Arcane
Check out this gorgeous rack focus as Caitlyn grudgingly turns over her weapon in exchange for a healing vial.
It’s so good we slowed it down to appreciate the details like the dust puffs as the metal slides across the table, Huck’s fingers twitching nervously as he looks between Caitlyn and her weapon, and the attention to what shows through the crack between the double barrels.
Doctor Who “The Angels Take Manhattan”
The incredibly noir opening of “The Angels Take Manhattan” sets the tone for what will be the second time period of the episode.
You could write ten posts on this sequence alone.
Maybe one day we will . . .

Doctor Who “Blink” and “The Angels Take Manhattan”
These shots (photos 1&2) from episode 7.05 "The Angels Take Manhattan" are visual callbacks to episode 3.10 "Blink" (photos 3&4).
Both episodes are written by Steven Moffat and involve Weeping Angels as central villains, but are otherwise completely different.
“Blink” and "The Angels Take Manhattan" are respectively:
directed by Hettie McDonald vs Nick Hurran
set in London 1920 and 2007 vs Manhattan 1938 and 2012
Doctor 10 vs Doctor 11
companions Martha vs Amy & Rory
centre around one-off character Sally Sparrow vs focusing on the long-running relationship between the Doctor, Amy, and Rory
have no impact on the season arc vs ending with a huge event which shifts the season (and series) going forward
Despite working in different times, with different characters and plots and objectives etc., the visual language still ties “Blink” and "The Angels Take Manhattan" together.
Cry of the Hunted
Cry of the Hunted is essentially one long chase after an escaped prisoner, and this moving master lets you appreciate the stunts, choreography, and architecture of this foot pursuit while leaving you breathless as the coppers by the end!
